My car failed its MOT yesterday, purely because of the illegal number plates. They weren’t displaying the post-code of the issuer not the BS mark. I was told the new rule came in 3 weeks ago and that all number plates not displaying these two things will be failed!
I can’t believe that at all…. does that mean millions of cars will now have to purchase new number plates? I certainly couldn’t find anything on-line about this new rule so await my query to the DVLA.
Anyway, my number plates were still illegal with a non standard font
I’ve now got some ‘legal’ plates that temporarily adhere to my permanent ones for MOT purposes. After all, the Police couldn’t give a damn providing they can read the mark properly.
I was looking around the net for companies that offer plate making and found Funny Vanity Plates. They’ve got a mahoosive choice and you’re able to play around with different fonts, colours and images! They’ve got a bespoke design service and umpteen ideas for something a bit different.
Great for ‘show’ plates or even door signs, fridge signs, the ideas for usage are never ending. I quite like the one I did of my own personal plate shown up above ![]()

Number Plates
The regulations only apply to number plates made after 2001. the law has been in place for some time but just became part of the MOT test recently.
